The National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE) has announced an agreement to fund $855,657 in sports medicine and concussion research, the vast majority of which will focus on research to reduce athlete concussion, “a cornerstone of NOCSAE’s mission.”
The NOCSAE (www.nocsae.org) board finalized the research funding agreement in late January after the completion of its winter board meeting in Phoenix, Ariz.
“Scientific research is essential to advancing the safety of athletes of all ages and effectively addressing the issue of sports concussions,” said Mike Oliver, NOCSAE executive director. “The approved research grants will support some of the top scientists and researchers in the world, and will continue to inform and evolve NOCSAE athletic equipment standards.”
NOCSAE is an independent and nonprofit standard-setting body that aims “to enhance athletic safety through scientific research and the creation of performance standards for protective equipment.”
