Sports Legacy Institute Set To Host Impact Awards

The Sports Legacy Institute (SLI) will hold its Annual Impact Awards on October 23 at 6 p.m. at the Boston Harbor Hotel.

  • 2009 Recipients — Keith Primeau, Former NHL Player (Detroit Red Wings, Hartford Whalers, Carolina Hurricanes, Philadelphia Flyers); Ted Johnson, Former NFL Player (New England Patriots);  Micky Ward, Former Professional Boxer & WBU Champion; and Captain William B. Reynolds (ret.)
  • 2010 Recipients–  The National Football League (NFL), accepted by Commissioner Roger Goodell
  • 2011 Recipients —  Dr. Ann McKee, Bu CSTE Co-Director and Kevin Turner, Former NFL Player (New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles)
  • 2012 Recipient — The Ivy League

Proceeds from the event will benefit SLI concussion education & prevention programs, as well as research at the Boston University Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy.

SLI is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in June 2007 by concussion expert Dr. Robert Cantu, MD, and former Harvard football player and WWE professional wrestler Chris Nowinski in reaction to new medical research revealing that concussions and brain trauma in sports had become a public health crisis.
